In response to the changing circumstances, Messages of Hope, Messages of Love has shifted down the electromagnetic spectrum: Morse code audio signals replacing light to transmit your message.
Messages will be aired at the time originally indicated, with the full stream viewable Thursday 29 July to Sunday 01 August, 6 - 11pm.
Sydney-based artists Michaela Gleave and Fausto Brusamolino bring Messages of Hope, Messages of Love to the South Australian skies as part of The Avalanches’ residency.
Taking the form of a collaborative poem, the work is composed of messages submitted by the public via this website during an open call. From these submissions, the artists will arrange the selected messages to form an intuitive and heartfelt collective tribute to the people of Adelaide that will be beamed across physical and digital space. These illuminated messages will be viewable in the sky and via a live webcam stream here, on this webpage accompanied by text translations of each message.
Gleave and Brusamolino’s project – presented in conversation with The Avalanches – is a love letter to Adelaide. It is conceived as a timely and poetic response to the strange reality of these times and encourages messages of love, hope, resilience, strength and compassion.
The open call for messages has now closed. Illuminate Adelaide and the artists can't wait to be live with all your messages from 6 - 11PM on Thursday
Acknowledgements The first iteration of this project was produced in partnership with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, 2020. It was supported by the City of Sydney and the NSW Government through Create NSW.
