Safety
The safety of our patrons and staff is our highest priority, and Compagnie Carabosse have successfully presented Fire Gardens events in cities around the world safely and without incident to the delight of thousands of patrons.
In Australia, some 120,000 people have experienced the company’s captivating work: in Perth (Government House Gardens) last year, the 2020 Adelaide Festival (Adelaide Botanic Garden) and at the 2018 Melbourne Festival (Royal Botanic Gardens), and with four different installations at WOMADelaide since 2004.
The company rigorously plan the public routes through the installation with audience safety being of paramount concern. Thirty members of the team constantly monitor the audience behaviour to ensure the avoidance of incidents. The ‘fire’ effect itself is contained within the purpose built terracotta ‘flower pot’ structures and crowd flows are closely observed and managed accordingly throughout the event area.
In addition, within the highly controlled event there will be an accredited fire safety warden - as well as qualified first-aid personnel, front of house attendants, and security staff to ensure the safe and viewing of the display.
The event and its associated safety procedures have been developed and reviewed in consultation with senior officers from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
It is a condition of entry that children 12 years and under can only be admitted if accompanied and supervised by their parents/guardians at all times, which will necessarily be enforced by the Front of House team throughout the event site.
Accessibility
Fire Gardens is a promenade event requiring patrons to move around and through the displays. Adelaide Botanic Garden is easy to navigate via wheelchair, with paved and bitumen paths accessible throughout most of the site. The event area will include paving, grass, compact dirt, and sloped and uneven surfaces.
While some areas of the site are not wheelchair accessible, the installations can be easily viewed from the paved paths and Front of House staff will be stationed along these routes to assist patrons requiring directions or assistance.
Accessible toilets are available within the event area.
Fire Gardens is a high visual content event featuring some live performances and ambient music, with no dialogue.
